What the hell hapened?

So, I’ve cooled of a bit now. It won’t last…
I’ve been following the story of doctor Mohamed Haneef. From the start it seemed a bit fishy, they said that they had found his SIM card in the wreck of the car that tried to blow up the airport at Glasgow and that the car and the SIM card belonged to his cousin. Ok, so what? Sure I can understand that some people just tried to blow you up I can understand that you’d want to question him, but not arrest him! His cousin had his SIM card, he’s moving to Australia maybe he gave it to him because it would be useless to him in Australia. But wait a second, I seem to remember that the car was on fire… If the phone was used as a trigger, which is what they were saying then surely it would’ve been fairly close to the fire? Now I’m not that intelligent but last time I checked fire+SIM card = burnt SIM card, and burnt SIM card= Hard to read. Is it just me or does it seem a little weird that something that was used as a trigger to an explosive device can have data taken of it that easily? surely it would just be a little bit of burnt plastic? Of coarse later we find out that it wasn’t found in the car at all, but 400m away! Again bring him in for questioning but you can’t say that it was used to start the explosion. They were saying that it was the thing that made the spark, not possible from 400m away…
So they arrest him. Under the newish terror laws someone suspected of terrorist activity can be held for seven days. Now these laws were basically copied from the British one. Which failed to get made into a law. Even though at the time Tony Blair had a massive majority in parliament and was extremely popular they still rejected it! The Australian government in all their glory came along and made it law. Easy. The media made a relatively small deal over it and that was it. It was passed and Australia continued along the road to become America…
So now Doctor Haneef is in jail being questioned. After seven days they haven’t found anything on him so they go to court and get the day they have to charge him with something extended. What’s the point of having a maximum of seven days to hold someone if the police can just go to court and get it extended!?! So the next day they still can’t find something go back to court, “Can we have another day?” “Sure!”. The next day the finally charge him with providing materials to a terrorist. Which has to be the worst crime I’ve ever heard. If I give my jacket to a person I know who then later on commits an act of terrorism then I can be sent to jail. That’s how I understand it. He gave his cousin a SIM card. He MUST be a terrorist. No one ever gives their cousins anything! He must of been aware of their intentions to try and kill innocent people and wanted to provide them with help! So they charge him. He applies for bail. The judge grants it. The government thinks “Hang on a minute, that’s not the way it’s supposed to work.” So they get the immigration minister to cancel his working visa. The immigration minister Mr Andrews said that it was in national interest. It’s in national interest that the court system be completely overridden by the government therefor making it completely toothless? See the idea is that if doctor Haneef posts bail he gets arrested strait away again. He’s not allowed to leave the country because he has an appearance in court to make so if he tries to do what he is supposed to do and leave the country he’ll be arrested for breaching bail! and if he tries to stay in the country he gets sent to a detention center for staying in Australia without a visa which is even worse than being jail!
So he doesn’t post bail, choosing jail over detention. A few days later he goes to court and the judge looks at the case and wait a second! there’s no grounds for prosecution whatsoever! imagine that! So he’s free to go right? The judge has said that he’s free to go. Surely now it’s clear that it isn’t in “national interest” to cancel his visa anymore? Not only are there no grounds to cancel it anymore theres an incentive! He’s a doctor in Queensland, and let me tell you that’s a very rare breed. “What’s that you say? There’s a national shortage of doctors? well that’s the first I’ve heard about it.”So now he’s released and they say that they’re going to take his passport and keep him under house arrest until they figure out what they’re going to do with a perfectly innocent person.
The next day news stations report that he’s flying back to India! What happened to taking his passport and keeping him under house arrest? Did you finally realise that you should probably leave him alone? Well not really… Because his visa is still canceled. He can’t come back to were he was working and living! But lets face facts, why on earth would he want to?
So the election is coming up pretty quickly now, surely the oppostion is using this for all it’s wort? What that’s? They agreed with government the entire way? You mean that basically on this extremely controversial issue both the government and the opposition has the same policy!? What the hell happened?!?!?!?
What’s the point of having elections anymore? First of all they’re probably the most undemocratic elections I’ve ever seen, excluding of coarse the American elections. How is it democracy if you have to vote? If you don’t then you get fined. You get fined for not voicing your opinion!!! But it’s ok, you can still donkey vote, you know make your ballot invalid and then no one gets your vote. But wait a second, you mean when someone donkey votes their votes just gets split between all the political party’s? Well whats the point then? The majority of votes go to the two main parties Liberal and Labour and the majority of donkey votes go to them as well, and they have identical policies when it comes to the most important issues!
