I thought I’d be manly and struggle onwards and not even complain, then thought sod it I’m going to stay home and complain. So that’s what I did. Looking back on that decision I’m appreciating just how clever and sensible I am.
So a couple of months ago I got glasses, just for reading and up close stuff like that. The best way I can describe them is that they’re like reading a large print book. Now I’m almost dependent on them when reading. I realised that I’m that old person who has to get out their glasses whenever they read even the tiniest bit of text. I didn’t like that too much….
I downloaded some music from the internet (legally), and for some reason they came in a M4A format which I’d never heard of until they were sitting on my hard drive. So I’m trying to burn them onto CD and windows won’t let me burn them because they’re in the wrong format. Which pisses me of because windows media player can play the file and when it burns music to disks it converts them to WMAs anyway. So I download an M4A converter and it seems to work great so I burn the CD, then stick it in the CD player for a couple of seconds later to check if it works and it sounds great.
About a week later I realise that I haven’t listened to the CD all the way though I start to play it and half way through the first track it skips I’m annoyed but being the calm person that I am I remain calm and start to listen to track no.2 sure enough half way though it cuts to track 3. So I stick the CD in the computer (maybe my CD player sucks) and it does the same and on further inspection all the tracks are half the length. I go back to the converter I downloaded for free and turns out that if you wanted to convert the whole file (how silly to want to do that) then you needed to pay about 20 USD (which is ridiculous because it was a tiny little piece of software)Â so after consulting with some wiser computer nerds I get directed to a better that converts the entire track for free, not only does it do that but it converts pretty much any file to any other compared to the 20 USD one that only did M4A to MP3. It pissed me of because this stupid thing had wasted a good hour of my life and then expected me to pay them money for something that lots of other programs do for free.
What bothered me most though is that someone who can write a program like that must have some sought of internet savvy and must surely know that you can get programs that are much better and do many more things for free. But they must make money I’m willing to bet that they make a fair profit out of almost scamming people. It’s like someone on the street with the free newspaper but it’s not that simple, oh no. They’ve gone into each paper and cut out the most interesting bits and just left you with half the paper and down the bottom it says “To read the rest of this of this paper please give us $5.” and some people will rather than going round the corner where they can get the entire thing for free.
That was a very long simile.
Like a little child with a bigger vocabulary and more anger.
